EMC Manufacturing Essentials Project

As part of their initiative to help manufacturers become more competitive in the labour market and increase productivity, Excellence in Manufacturing Consortium (EMC) requested AWES to provide guidelines for developing tools to assess and measure skills’ improvement and growth in their Manufacturing Essentials Project. An environmental scan of existing materials, manufacturing training curricula, and management feedback established industry-specific skills needs, managers’ value of having employees who “speak up”, and the need for a tool to measure oral communication and ability to work with others. AWES developed and piloted an assessment tool to support the development of skills, specifically contextualized to presentation skills and communication skills for teamwork.
