Partnerships for Workplace Inclusion 

Newcomers to Alberta often receive segmented learning which can create barriers to integration. This project broke down learning silos and created more seamless pathways from the classroom to employment. With NorQuest College’s Colbourne Institute for Inclusive Leadership (CIIL), AWES introduced an innovative, community-minded approach to newcomer integration that brought together stakeholders from language and settlement, career development, and industry. Several new resources were created and piloted by 16 organizations in various sectors. The materials use authentic scenarios to address topics not always covered in language classes and familiarize newcomers with workplace rights and responsibilities to prepare them for work in Canada.
