Aggregate Hauling Safety

Funder(s): Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) creative sentencing initiative
Project Partner(s): Alberta Motor Transport Association (AMTA), and Border Paving LTD.

After a driver fatality that resulted in an Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Creative Sentencing initiative, AWES received funding to create training content for the aggregate hauling industry that is more accessible to English as a Second Language (ESL) workers and career seekers looking to enter the industry. Working with Alberta Motor Transport Association (AMTA), AWES developed and launched the Aggregate Hauling Equipment Training course. The content in the newly designed course integrates language learning and skills development with industry-specific technical and safety concepts that are contextualized to trucking and hauling. Workers who complete this course develop and strengthen the skills they need to work safely in the industry.
