McCain’s Workplace Essential Skills Training

Funder(s): McCain Foods (fee for service work)
Project Partner(s): Canada-Alberta Job Grant

McCain Foods reached out to AWES for training opportunities and an organizational needs assessment. McCain’s Human Resources, supervisors, and employees contributed to the assessment, which revealed a need for targeted training in five key areas: workplace communication, document use, writing, intercultural communication, and digital literacy. AWES developed a tailored training plan, using authentic workplace documents and tasks to ensure participants would be able to apply their new skills to their work. Each participant received 22 hours of private training on language, essential skills, and workplace culture that was customized to their skills and language levels, workplace needs, and schedule. The training improved participants’ workplace vocabulary and skills, such as being able to find information online, navigate workplace documents, and communicate and write more clearly.
