Funder(s): National Literacy Secretariat (NLS)
Project Partner(s): Alberta Learning , The Alberta Food Processors Association (AFPA)

AWES conducted a sector-wide needs assessment in the food processing industry to identify essential skills needs and evaluate the effects of future trends on skill requirements. Representatives from 83 companies in 22 Alberta communities were interviewed to inform AWES’ recommendations for training. Training solutions focused on workforce development to prepare workers for change and equip them with adaptability skills were recommended, such as industry-specific workshops for supervisors, numeracy courses, and language training. At the end of this project, the Alberta Food Processors Association (AFPA) integrated AWES’ essential skills initiatives into their internal “Molson Learning Centre” training hub.
