An organizational needs assessment of Sodexo’s housekeeping services staff was performed to identify essential skills needs and inform a tailored workplace essential skills training framework. AWES provided 30 hours of essential skills training and workshops on intercultural communication and plain-language to 32 front-line supervisors and workers, as well as train-the-trainer workshops to managers and supervisors from Rockyview Hospital, Peter Lougheed Centre, and Lethbridge Regional Hospital. The training improved interpersonal relationships, communication, document use, and the overall work environment and decreased time wasted, conflicts, and misunderstandings in the organization.
