This guide outlines six steps to successfully introduce workplace essential skills (WES) into curricula to support learners’ skill development and their ability to find and keep gainful employment. It provides strategies to introduce essential skills and work with learners to determine their occupational interests, identify the skills they need for success in those occupations, understand occupational goals, identify common workplace tasks, and gather authentic workplace documents and materials.
In addition, there are detailed guidelines for how to incorporate the identified essential skills and tasks in curricula and prepare instructors to use the curricula.
