About the project
Innovating ESL: Integrating Skills for Success is an online professional development course for ESL instructors in Alberta. It introduces a new approach to language learning that integrates Skills for Success (SFS) and contextualizes instruction to the needs of newcomers seeking employment. In the course, ESL instructors learn how to integrate Skills for Success methodology into curriculum development and language teaching and how to incorporate authentic materials into lessons with minimal preparation time. Instructors also gain tools and strategies for teaching concepts that may fall outside the regular scope of language instruction, such as navigating complex workplace situations or workplace diversity and inclusion. With this new approach, ESL instructors will be better equipped to help learners develop the skills they need for success in the workplace.
